Radiobiology

The second main research area that the IMBL beams are used for is radiobiology/ radiotherapy studies. The spectrum, collimation, and brightness provide a unique tool for studying the effects of radiation on tissue and cells.

Ongoing research is working towards understanding how finely collimated arrays of beams work in Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT). The effect of short exposures to bright and therefore high dose rate beams, is being investigated in Flash radiobiology studies.

The IMBL and the synchrotron building hosts supporting laboratories for pre and post beam time preparation and some analysis. These include pre-clinical housing and husbandry. Microscopy and cell culture facilities.
