Detector limits and detectivities
We have four types of detectors commonly available for use:
A “narrow-band” mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) from Bruker (MCT-D313)
Cut-off 750 cm-1
A “mid-band” MCT from Bruker (MCT-D316)
Cut-off 600 cm-1
A “wide-band” MCT from Bruker (MCT-D315)
Cut-off 420 cm-1
A focal plane array (64 × 64)
Unless otherwise requested, the standard configuration of the beamline uses the narrow band MCT detector.
Example spectra at various pinhole (aperture) sizes acquired using the narrowband and wideband detector can be found HERE.
Figure: Bruker detector performance. Note the order of magnitude decrease in “detectivity” with the wide-band detector compared to the narrow- and mid-band detectors.
