Hand mounting

Planning

Sample mounting

  • Ensure the detector has moved all the way back from the goniometer. Do not reach around it to mount your sample.

  • Use care when mounting and unmounting samples. If you bump it the goniometer it will lose its position and will have to be rehomed, which is a slow task and will take up your beamtime.

  • Entering and exiting the hutch

    • In order to mount your samples, you will need to enter the hutch, place your pin on the goniometer and then lock the door.

    • For more information about locking the door, see the Personal Safety System section on the Safety at MX page.

Safety

  • Bring samples in as little solvent as possible.

  • Carefully observe lab space and office space within the User Cabin. Do not mix areas with food and research samples, for obvious reasons.

  • Waste:

    • All sharps, such as pipettes, glass vials or slides, go in the yellow sharps containers. If they are full, tell beamline staff.

    • All contaminated waste go in the contaminated waste bin.
