MCT beamline layout

Photon delivery system (PDS) in Hutch A consists of mask, white beam slit A, filters with five paddles, monochromator (DMM), diagnostic screen, white beam slit B, mirror (VBM), white beam slit C, photon shutter, and safety shutter.

  • Filters

The in vacuo filters are graphite, diamond, Al, Cu, Zr, Pd and Sn. The beam spectrum with several filters condition can be seen below:

  • Monochromator (DMM)

The Double Multilayer Monochromator has three stripes with coating material of material of Ru/C (for 8 – 23 keV, 3% bandpass), V/B4C (for 8 – 25 keV, 0.5% bandpass), and W/B4C (21 – 40 keV, 3% bandpass). The X-ray energy will be defined by the pitch position of both multilayers. This will be controlled using Beamline Configuration application.

  • Mirror (VBM)

The Vertical Bounced Mirror has two stripes with coating material of Rh and Pt. Pitch position of the stripe will dictate the energy cut off at higher energy end.

  • Sample stage

Translation vertical range: -50mm to +50mm

Translation horizontal range: -75mm to +75mm (in or out of the beam)

Max sample weight = 2 kg

  • Sample robot (not available yet)

If the sample is suitable using pins, we can send the pins for users to prepare the samples prior to the beamtime.

The size of the sample can not be larger than the sample square based.

  • Loading device, CT500 (available)

  • maximum load 500N

  • tensile and compression testing

  • 3 points and 4 points bend testing

  • maximum extension 10 mm (10-20mm for tensile) or (15-5 mm for compression)

  • maximum sample height for compression is 10mm
