Users need to submit a short proposal in the Australian Synchrotron User Portal. Proposals can be submitted in the ~6 rapid access rounds offered per year, and are reviewed by our PAC. This proposal will require:

• A title

• A brief summary of the research to be undertaken and it's importance, including a description of why this work requires synchrotron radiation

• A brief summary of the national benefit & applications of the proposed research

• How many samples will be measured This needs to be a maximum of 20

• How much time is required for data collection from each sample An estimate is required. 5 min a sample (150 sec a position) is a good starting point if you are not sure

• Energy required The available energies are 21 or 16 keV. Please see here on how to choose an energy as this depends on the elemental composition of your samples

• Address to send sample box kit if proposal is successful The PD team are not responsible for delays in running samples due to the postal address being incorrectly provided by the user. 

• Elemental composition and safety information The mail-in program only accepts low-risk samples

• Sample & robot spreadsheet This is needed so we can estimate how long your experiment will run

• Any lab XRD data you have Submitting and describing this data with your proposal is highly recommended and will support the scientific merit and need for synchrotron radiation
