The XAS beamline employs hard X-rays, spanning 5 - 35 keV. Please see the XAS page on the Australian Synchrotron website here for more details on the XAS photon delivery system. The energy range is divided into three ‘modes’ covering the low (5-9 keV), medium (9-19 keV), and high (15-31 keV) energies, which allows access to most of the periodic table.
Elements in Red are analysed in Mode 1, Blue are analysed in Mode 2, and Yellow are analysed in Mode 3
When designing an experiment for the XAS beamline, we encourage users to analyse edges of elements which fall within the same mode. It takes significant time to change between modes and it is generally considered infeasible to analyse in multiple modes in a beamtime.
