Lab inductions
To access any of our laboratories you must have a valid online lab induction. This induction can be found in the User portal under Exams/inductions, “Laboratory induction – online component” (see picture below). Please complete this induction prior to coming to any on-site laboratory inductions. This induction is valid for 12 months.
To access the main Chemistry lab, you also require a valid Chem lab induction. This induction is an in-person, on-site induction. The induction is run by the AS lab staff every Tuesday to Friday (during the User beam round only) at 9:30am in the Chem lab (G.14). You do not need to book, just join us any morning at 9:30am (normally on the first day of your beamtime). This induction is valid for three years.
Note: If this is your first visit to the Synchrotron, please ensure that you leave plenty of time to attend the User Office to have your access card issued and get to the lab prior to the 9:30am lab induction start time. The User Office is open from 8:30am.
To access any of our specialty labs (Biochemistry lab, Tissue Culture labs, Small equipment lab, Botany lab, Microscope lab) - you will require the online induction, the Chem lab induction and a brief, on-site induction to the lab you require access to. Please contact the labs team to book an induction for the specialty labs.
To access IMBL labs - you will require the online lab induction, an induction to the lab you require access to, and you may also require the Chem lab induction. Please contact the labs team to discuss access to the IMBL labs.
We recommend bringing your own safety glasses as they are mandatory in our labs.
Failure to follow any of our lab rules may result in lab access being removed and the requirement to re-sit inductions.
Ensure your lab workspace is left clean and tidy at the conclusion of your beamtime and remove all your samples and chemicals from the labs.
