First time remote-access users
You will need to set up multi-factor authentication through an authenticator app. You will be directed to this page when accessing the remote access web page for the first time (https://remote.asci.synchrotron.org.au/ ).
Install one of the following authentication apps on your phone:
FreeOTP
Google Authenticator
Microsoft Authenticator
Scan the QR code to set up authentication with the app of your choice
Use the one-time code in the app to finish the setup.
From here, you should be directed to the ASCI (Australian Synchrotron Computing Infrastructure) single sign-on page
Troubleshooting
If you are having problems with the multi-factor authentication, try closing your authenticator app and opening it again.
If this doesn’t work, try toggling your phone time settings (“set time automatically” or “automatic date and time”) off and on again.
Using Remote Access
Every time you log in to remote access, you will need to sign in to ASCI. You will do this with your Australian Synchrotron Portal Username and Password and a one-time code from your authenticator app.
You will be directed to the remote access page, which contains your experiment sessions, links to the MXCube application and a session chat.
Click on the session you want to access. You will only see sessions where you are on a valid EA.
Click on the people button next to your session to see the primary user. The primary user (or the user with control of the beamline) will have a computer symbol next to their name.
Managing control of the beamline
Only one user can be in control of the beamline at once. Other users can view MXCube in “observer mode”, however they cannot control the robot, center, or collect on crystals.
You can request control from the primary user and they can decide to give you control or not. If the primary user wants to leave the beamline free for whoever wishes to next access the beamline, they can turn “auto-approve” on and the next user who requests control will automatically be given it.

Session Chat
You can chat with other users in your session. You cannot edit or delete your posts once posted, and this chat is available only during the session.

Launch MXCube in the applications section. From MXCube you control the robot mounting, manual centring and data collection on your crystals. See the MXCube page for more information.
