Chemistry Lab Access
The chemistry lab is our ‘main laboratory’ onsite.
It contains our most frequently used equipment, consumables and chemicals.
Some equipment requires additional training (e.g. glovebox, freeze dryer, ball mill, automatic pellet press etc.) and should be booked in advance of your beamtime.
To maximise sample preparation time, we recommend completing/checking your online lab induction component is valid prior to attending site.
We do not require advance bookings for the onsite chemistry lab induction, just attend at 9.30 am sharp on the first day of your beamtime. If you don’t have a site access card (new User or lost/misplaced card) please attend the User Office first to have a card issued, allowing enough time to be at the Chem lab by 9:30 am. The User Office is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Note: All chemicals you will be using, including those supplied by the AS laboratories, must be listed and approved on the “sample, chemical and gasses spreadsheet” attached to your EA.
Access Requirements:
Valid Online Induction (Expires: 1 year)
PLUS
Valid Onsite Chemistry Lab Induction (Expires: 3 years)
Held at G.14 every Tuesday-Friday at 9.30am sharp during beam round

DO NOT ENTER THE LAB
Check your exams/inductions in the portal:
a. If the “Lab Induction – Online Component” has EXPIRED or showing not yet completed:
Complete the “Lab Induction – Online Component” in the portal.
Email us at as-labs@ansto.gov.au when completed. (Access is not automatic once the online inductions are complete - lab staff will need to manually set up lab access on your card).
b. If the “Chemistry Laboratory Induction (G.14)” has EXPIRED or showing not yet completed:
If it’s been over 3 years - time to complete the on-site induction again!
9.30am in the chemistry lab (Tuesday to Friday).
If less than 3 years: you likely have not authorised the Chem lab induction in the portal. Please find the email that was sent out on the day of your last induction and follow the confirmation link to the portal to authorise the induction.
Email us at as-labs@ansto.gov.au when authorisation is complete. (Access is not automatic once the induction is authorised - lab staff will need to manually set up lab access on your card).
c. IF NEITHER OF THE ABOVE APPLY:
Contact the Lab Staff or the User Office as soon as possible (or security after hours).
