Specialty Lab Access
We have many dedicated laboratories onsite to assist in sample preparation aside from our main chemistry lab.
These we call our “specialty labs”.
Many of these labs feature specialized equipment that require additional training, so we ask that you contact the lab staff as soon as possible to book your induction if needed.
Some equipment (like CO2 incubators), also require bookings in advance (minimum 2 weeks) so we can schedule groups attending simultaneously.
Failure to make arrangements with the lab staff in advance of your beamtime may result in us being unable to accommodate your needs for sample preparation.
Laboratory access outside of your allocated beamtime may require an additional EA to be completed for the labs. Make sure to speak to your beamline scientist as soon as possible if you require additional time.
Note: All chemicals you will be using and supplied by the laboratories must be listed and approved on the “sample, chemical and gasses spreadsheet” attached to your EA.
Specialty Labs:
Biochemistry (e.g. protein, bacteria etc.)
Botany (e.g. plants, roots, etc.)
Dedicated Microscope Labs (e.g. Petrographic etc.)
Dedicated Small Equipment Lab (e.g. Microtome, Diamond saw etc.)
Tissue Culture Labs (found in Building 200 and IMBL)
Access Requirements:
Valid Online Induction (Expires: 1 year)
PLUS
Valid Onsite Chemistry Lab Induction (Expires: 3 years)
PLUS
Valid Onsite Specialty Lab Induction

DO NOT ENTER THE LAB
Check your exams/inductions in the portal:
a. IF THE LAB INDUCTION - ONLINE COMPONENT HAS EXPIRED/INVALID:
Complete the “Lab Induction – Online Component” in the portal.
Email us at as-labs@ansto.gov.au to set access when completed.
b. IF THE CHEMISTRY LABORATORY INDUCTION (G.14) &/OR RELEVANT SPECIALTY LAB INDUCTION HAS EXPIRED/INVALID:
Been over 3 years: Time to complete the on-site induction again!
9.30am in G.14 (Tuesday to Friday) for the chemistry lab or contact lab staff for specialty labs
If less than 3 years: find the email that was sent out the day of your last induction and follow the confirmation link to the portal (chemistry lab only)
When confirmed, email us at as-labs@ansto.gov.au to set access.
Contact the Lab Staff as soon as possible for any specialty lab inductions that are not valid
c. IF NONE OF THE ABOVE APPLY:
Contact the User Office/Lab Staff as soon as possible (or security after hours).
