Accelerator Physics and Operations

This page is under development as of 1/10/2025.

The Accelerator Science and Operations group ensures the reliable operation and development of accelerator systems at the Australian Synchrotron. We conduct accelerator physics research to enhance performance and reliability, expand research capabilities, and develop next-generation accelerator technology. The group collaborates with local Australian accelerator facilities, universities, and international laboratories.

As custodians of Australia's most significant particle accelerator infrastructure, ANSTO is dedicated to training the next generation of accelerator physicists and engineers. We offer a wide range of student projects for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The accelerator systems at the Australian Synchrotron include:

  • 100 MeV linac

  • 100 MeV to 3 GeV booster synchrotron

  • 3 GeV storage ring
