Getting Started with Remote Access

  1. Log in to the Remote Access webpage and select your session from the left-hand panel

  2. Click on the users icon next to your session, and request control.

  3. Once you are given control, click on “Launch” to open MXCube-Web

Good to know:

  • If needed, you can chat with other members of your experiment in the Session Chat.

  • If you are in control of the beamline you can accept or deny requests for control. Synchrotron Staff members can take control from a user in control.

  • If you are in control and want to leave and let the next user who requests control to automatically get it, click on the little red checkmark next to your name to turn on auto-approve. It will turn blue when auto-approve is enabled.

 

 

 

Queuing Samples

  1. Select your pucks

    1. Select Samples tab (if you can’t see your samples, and you have uploaded them into MXPrism, click the “Refresh” button to load them)

    2. Filter by puck position or scroll down to find your puck numbers (this will not be the case for very long)

    3. To queue your samples, select the box at the top to queue all pins

 

 

 

  1. Go to Data Collection tab

  2. Under Queued samples, click mount for the pin you want to run and wait for it to mount.

 

 

Centering Samples

  1. Centering

    1. Select 3 click centering and click on your crystal three times

    2. If necessary, change the zoom level by clicking on Zoom on the top panel. You can click to select different zoom levels, but then pull the mouse down, rather than across, or it will change the zoom again.

    3. Note: If something is orange on the panel it is active. Deactivate by clicking again.

    4. You can do a second three click center if it is still selected and orange

    5. Check centering by rotating omega on the left panel

    6. You can change the center manually by right clicking and selecting go to beam on the location where you want to center, then rotating Omega and repeating until it is centered at all angles.

    7. You can also click "show motors" then go to "sample vertical" and "sample horizontal" to pan to the right spot

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. One shot

    1. Left click on the spot where you have centered your crystal, and select One Shot

    2. Check setting and hit enter to collect

  2. Rastering

    1. Change the beam size to a good size on the left, the raster grid will use that as the scan size
      Note: If you are on the colour camera (zoom levels 1 -4) use the 10x10 or 20x20 beam size, if on the black and white camera (zoom levels 5-7) use the 5x5 beam size.
      Note: You should never do a grid scan with more than 2000 points. It will fail!

    2. Select grid scan

    3. Left click and drag from top left to draw the box you want to raster over

    4. Right click inside the box and select save grid

    5. Right click on the camera window and click grid scan

    6. Change settings.

      1. Alignment speed = 1

      2. Transmission = 1

    7. After the scan has finished, a heatmap will show on the camera feed to show where diffraction was best. To examine the results, select Draw Grid and change opacity to see better the heatspots. Or check results in MX Prism.

    8. If you want to run it again, right click and select delete grid, and set another one

    9. After rastering, right click on the spot you want to collect and select centering point on cell

    10. Delete the grid by right clicking on the grid and selecting delete

    11. Mouse over the centering point and right click and select go to point

    12. Do a One Shot scan to see if there is any diffraction you want to collect.

    13. If the One Shot is good, rotate 90 degrees and do another raster to find centering in the other direction. You can do a letterbox shaped grid scan, as you only need to center along the horizontal axis.

  3. Screening

    1. After you have selected the best location to shoot, right click and select Screening

      1. Default parameters are 2 sec, 20 deg, 0.2 deg/frame, 2 A, 0.5% transmission

  4. Dataset

    1. Collect Dataset Change parameters...

      1. Exposure time

      2. Wedge

      3. Slicing (deg/frame)

      4. Start Angle

      5. Processing pipeline (default fastDP)

    2. Default parameters are 18 sec, 180 deg, 0.2 deg/frame, 2 A, 0.5% transmission

  5. Dismount sample

    1. Under samples, right click on the current sample and select dismount sample, or just click mount for the next sample
