Before submitting a Proposal

All potential NEW Users to the beamline must contact the beamline scientists at as-xas@ansto.gov.au well in advance of submitting their proposal to discuss feasibility and maximise their chances of success.

Note: The proposer / Principal Scientist on a proposal cannot be a student.

The XAS team has prepared proposal writing guidelines in the daughter page Writing a technically feasible proposal on XAS. Please ensure you read the entire page as following the guidelines will give you the best chance at writing a competitive proposal.

All users wishing to use the Hutch C crystal spectrometer must contact the beamline team prior to submitting their proposal.

For in situ experiments

  • Have you tried ex situ analysis first? In situ experiments are difficult and your proposal will likely be stronger if you demonstrate that you have collected good ex situ data before attempting an in situ set up.

  • Describe all potential hazardous products of your reaction (e.g. if your reaction will generate gases, include the table of exposure limits as described in the Proposal Guidelines).

Consult with the checklist below BEFORE submitting your proposal.

If you answer “NO” to any of these questions, please go back and take the necessary steps to permit a “YES” answer before submitting your proposal. Failure to answer yes to any of these questions is likely to render your proposal non-competitive.

Does the experimental plan include a table of samples and experimental conditions as outlined in the proposal guidelines?

Proposal submission

All proposals are submitted via the Australian Synchrotron Portal, https://portal.synchrotron.org.au.

Please Note:
It is no longer possible to create Australian Synchrotron portal accounts on behalf of others, so please ensure anyone you intend to add to your proposal has a portal account well ahead of the proposal deadline.
