MEX1 Cryostat
FOR PROPOSALS: PUT “CRYO”, “CRYOSTAT” ETC IN YOUR PROPOSAL TITLE
Beamline | MEX-1 |
Temperatures | 8 to 298 K Up to 500 K if using the heater function |
Cool down and alignment time between sample changes | ~ 20 mins |
Modes | Fluorescence and transmission |
Energies | 5 - 13.5keV good spectra < 5 keV achievable but noisy |
(Recommended) Rectangular: nine 7 mm x 3.5 mm pellets Circular: six 7 mm diameter pellets Customised: contact us |
Example data:
Zn K edge: From room temperature (298 K) to 8 K. Spectral resolution increases as temperature decreases.

Considerations
The sample plates (clear) are screwed onto the cryo tail (brown). Contact us if you require the correct size sample plates.
Avoid completely covering your sample with adhesive tape Eg Kapton, as even at high energies, the tape will absorb the beam. See MEX1 Sample Preparation for mounting ideas.
Avoiding cryo stick change overs is ideal. Therefore, preparing rectangular pellets to decrease sample change overhead time will make your beamtime easier and faster.
