During screening, geometric strategies are can be now calculated so that users can collect the optimal dataset necessary for their experiment while limited to a single OMEGA rotation. This is done by using the XPLAN module of XDS. The Data Collection Strategy is available on the crystal screening and data collection window on MX2.

For more in-situ crystal orientations for OMEGA seeps on MX1 and collecting a full sphere of data see Mini-Kappa - MX1

After screening your crystal, go to the Strategy Information tab. Fill in the following criteria:

  • Type of data you are collecting. Options are (JRP - Not sure if the options are meaningful):

    • Anomolous

    • Non-Anomalous

    • P1

  • Minimum desired completeness

  • Angle to add to wedge. This is the data to add to the wedge proposed by the strategy. The default (and our recommendation) is to add 60 degrees, but any number, zero and above zero can be used.

  • The dataset ID. This is the run number for the screening of the crystal which you would like to collectget a strategy for. It will automatically populate the most recent crystal screening, but check it if you want to run the strategy based on another screening run. Is this true? JRP - nope

After you have filled in this information, click the “Run strategy for dataset ID” button. This will calculate a variety of strategies, choose the best one, and populate the Collection tab with the relevant information for this strategy. The Index for the strategy selected is also shown above the table under "Selected index”. If for any reason you want to chose a different strategy, click on your desired strategy in the table, and it will populate the Collection tab with the relevant information. Is this correct? JRP - not sure, needs testing.

If your crystal is in an an orientation where strategy conditions can not be met, strategy 12 will be chosen. This may still be less data than you would like to collect. JRP - not sure, needs testing.
